Who’s Robbi Geane?
I AM! My name is Robbi Geane King, and yes, that is my “real name”. Nice to meet you. I am a sassy, grab-life-and-own-it, culinary teacher, professional chef, blogger and mom of two EXTRAORDINARY plant strong minions.
Originally from California, New York City kidnapped me about 14 years ago and I’m now a bonafide East Coast gal (but lets be honest… I would move back in a heart beat – Not too keen on winters).
What’s your training?
Food and nutrition have always had a significant place in my heart. In my opinion, food is its own language and has the ability to bring people together, in conversation, in education, and in enjoyment. Food and proper nutrition also have the ability to heal both mind and body. It took some time, but eventually, I decided to brave it up by pursuing and appreciating my true calling by attending culinary school at the International Culinary Center in Soho, NYC. After trying some stints in restaurants, and private events, I decided to peace out on that high-stress aspect of the food world and try out food blogging and private instruction. I did and it stuck! If you have checked out my site in the past, you would know that at first, it started out as a platform designed to give people motivation to take the initiative to get in the kitchen and start cooking but many of my recipes were created with the everyday American diet in mind (code for NOT HEALTHY). After some rebranding and soul searching, and training under T.Colin Campbell through Cornell University where I’ve received a certificate in Plant Based Nutrition, I’ve narrowed the focus to better coincide with me and my real life: PLANTS! And here we are today.
So uh, do you actually eat the stuff you post about?
I swear I get this question A LOT. The answer is —> YES!!!! Without a doubt. Plant Based eating isn’t a diet or something you do from time to time, it is a lifestyle. I do really eat all the things I post! In fact all of my recipes are inspired by my own hunger. Well, and my minions too, of course. LOL. I subscribe to the idea that a “WHOLEistic” approach to food, meaning, connecting the mind and the body with the food you consume, is the most nutritious and sustainable way to keep healthy. For real, I will choose a quinoa bowl over french fries anyday – truth. I’ve always had a love affair with vegetables and a seasonal, plant based diet. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated and consumed with the seasons and what grows when, why, and how. Growing up in California, I was truly spoiled and blessed with a constant and amazing assortment of incredible produce available anytime throughout the year. You just FEEL better when you eat locally, with the seasons, mindfully and consume more fruits and vegetables! You just do! Trust me. It’s science. (#Anchorman).
Robbi – what happened to your old site “Pick Up the Whisk” and what does “LIKE a BUNNY” mean?
I came up with Pick Up the Whisk as the name to my original blog as a kind of metaphor for taking action and doing something in the kitchen … grabbing that (whisk, knife, fork… whatever) and making something happen! However, over the years the purpose of this blog and its mission transformed, as did I! One day a friend told me that I “eat like a bunny” and it kinda stuck. Ha. While I no longer consume any cow’s dairy, meat, or refined sugars, I don’t really push the label thing. I’m not into converting anyone, I just like to lead by example! I’m just a gal who prefers to include a massive amount of plants and whole grains into her daily food consumption while being active and it works for me, so in that respect, I kinda do “eat and live like a bunny”. 🙂 Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, or someone who is interested in incorporating more plants into your diet, I hope to be of help to you. Personally, I don’t “diet” or “cleanse” or any thing like that, so you won’t get a push from me to fast for 4 days and drink nothing but cabbage water (so gross). Rather, eating healthy for me is a lifestyle choice and I commit to it daily with focus and determination and hope to inspire you to do the same thing by making plant based eating intriguing, fun and approachable!!
So that said… thanks for stopping by and I’m happy you did!!
