The Holiday Season has officially arrived. In addition to Eating and Drinking “like a bunny”, ya gotta live like one too! I’m really keen on gift giving with a conscious. What I mean by that is, I like to source gifts and services from companies that attach a message to their brand. For example, companies that support animal charities or eco-concious initiatives or gifts that support artisan and local, handcrafted work. Also, I just say “no” to animal testing. I like to treat all of Earth’s creatures with respect and dignity, even in the science lab.
I’ve compiled a few of my favorite Bunny Approved gift ideas for this Holiday Season. Hope you enjoy! 🙂
For the Not so Little Ones
I love these backpacks. My not so Little One has the Coney Island Bag and LOVES it. It contains just the right amount of compartments and isn’t too bulky. The larger bag retails for $60 and is perfect for kids in grade school. For every STATE bag purchased, STATE hand-delivers a backpack packed with essential supplies to an American child in need. www.statebags.com
Love this company. Love this cause. Love these bracelets. I’m a big PuraVida Bracelets fan. Not only do they create jobs for 100s of local Costa Rican artisans, are members of 1% of the Planet, they also have several collections committed to raising awareness and funds for a variety of charities. www.puravidabracelets.com
I’ve been a fan of this co for a bit now. You may have even seen a few of my Instagram posts with my Little One rocking this Goodnight Moon tshirt which retails for $20. We are kind of bookish around this house. You may even call us “book nerds” and we’re cool with that. For each product sold through Out of Print Clothing, one book is donated to a community in need through Books for Africa and any company with a mission to help spread global literacy gets a major Bunny Stamp of Approval. www.outofprintclothing.com
SO yes, there may be a bit of bias with this pick due to the whole Plant Based Chef thing, but come on??? They’re temporary tattoos of vegetables!! What kid doesn’t like temporary tattoos? I love, love, love their products and a pack of 20 retails for $20. Awesome stocking stuffer idea. The BEST part is that 10% of their sales go directly to sustainable farms and healthy food organizations. Yay. Yay. Yay. www.tatertats.com
I love toys that encourage curiosity without being guided by battery operated sounds and lights. Remember when we were kids?? We actually played with dirt!! (And survived!) Manzanita Kids is a back to basics, family run company that creates works of imaginative art in their sustainable, dollhouses, tree houses and other wooden toys. The craftsmanship is superb and each piece is handmade in Seattle. This doll house has been on my own wish list for awhile now. At $88 it is definitely a bit more pricey than a lot of conventional dollhouses, however, this piece is heirloom quality and will last for years! I have a feeling that Santa may be delivering this to our house in a few weeks…. 🙂 www.manzanitakids.com
My boys LOVE this dough and so do I!! The colors are created using natural food extracts, dyes and pigments and the packaging is even environmentally conscious. The dough packs range from $16-19. However, this amazing company doesn’t stop with play dough. They also offer eco-fingerpaint, crayons and art pads, all of which are super Bunny Approved in this house! *
Animalia, by Graeme Base
This is my favorite children’s book ever. Seriously. Hands down. I read it as a child, as a big sister, as an aunt and now as a mother. This book contains extraordinary illustrations, games and the author, Graeme Base, really showcases just how flipping incredible each and every animal on earth is. All of his works are entirely inspiring, thought-provoking (read the Water Hole) and captivating. Any child (and adult) will cherish this book for years to come. *
This book is like the animal kindness Bible. I know its technically not for kids, per se, but it is for families! Through thoughtful insight, interactive family projects, and really lovely illustrations, Tracey Stewart’s book serves as a wonderful guide towards understanding animals and how to treat them with a little bit more compassion. It truly changed my life and I am so grateful to Tracey and her commitment towards providing animals with safe havens and educating the public about empathy towards animals.*
